Daisy has new wires on her air conditioner -
Day 1 - Daisy has new wires on her air conditioner. Well worth the extra 3 hours wait for parts-and-labor while we prepared to get on the road Thursday. We're finally off! Drove through Georgia without much incident until about an hour outside Wilmington when the sky opened and the road disappeared for awhile. Deb and Adam pulled like the champs they are, we got to Rachel & Sara's (Dave's nieces) safely around 2 am. Slept like the dead.
Day 2 - Greenville college radio is alive and well at WZMB - Zombie Radio - how did they know we're such big zombie fans? We had a lovely time singing and playing for Matt and DJ LE, then drove on to Fountain for our third round at the R.A. Fountain General Store. Hats off to Alex Albright and his family for their hospitality and good company!
Our friend Eric sent us a Tall Pine Productions ball cap just before we set off. It's the designated "boss for a day" cap, so it's been making the rounds. We'll let you know how it works out, Eric. Meanwhile, there are even more new designations on our Mayhaw team: Keeper of the Nail, Deep Horizon, and Mule Driver. We promise a table of organization next time.
Yes, we are on our summer tour . . . check our MySpace page for more daily blogs.

Woo Who -
What awesome times around the campsites! Three music festivals have come and gone, with more friends met, and many hours spent with all. Thanks to everyone who attended our recent gigs. As Sharla says, "all y'all rock!" Carrie still holds the record for staying up the latest and jamming.
We have one more festival: the Florida Folk Festival in White Springs. You can catch us all three days of the event. See our full gig schedule for dates, times and stage locations. But, before that, we have a few local gigs: Mayhaw Farm Day, the Liz Redding Benefit at the American Legion, the Florida Native Plant Conference, the Healing Arts Alliance at Lake Ella, and Jake's Tavern with The Woodgrains from Athens, Ga. Again, check out our full gig schedule.
In March, we announced Rick Ott's "From the Heart Music Hour". This pilot television show aired on WFSU-TV Tuesday, March 30th. You can watch the entire show from here. Enjoy!
And last, we want to shout out to our friend Eric Hoeppner. The Mayhaws can't thank you enough for all you do for us: the countless hours of preparation, packing, setting up the campsites, cooking, loading and unloading equipment, and putting up with us. You are the sixth Mayhaw!

AmericanaWoman Music Fest #1
What is Americana music? Americana is music that honors and is derived from the traditions of American roots music. It is music inspired by American culture traditions which is not only represented in classic man made / roots based sounds but also through new and contemporary artists whose music is clearly inspired by these great traditions. It is a great genre, vast, like jazz which encompasses a wide range of music. Like jazz, which spans from Miles Davis to Harry Connick to the Preservation Hall, Americana's range includes artists like Gram Parsons, Soloman Burke, The Band, Lucinda Williams, Lyle Lovett, Mavis Staples. . .
. . . and the fabulous lineup for the first AmericanaWoman Fest,
Friday March 19 and Saturday March 20. Catch this two-day event starting 7pm
on Friday at the American Legion Hall, then continues Saturday at 2pm at Bird's
Aphrodisiac Oyster Shack with Girlz with Guitars
(single performers doing original music in-the-round), and wraps up Saturday
evening back at the American Legion Hall. For more information, check out
the event website
and event
poster.

New Beginnings
Wow, it was the year 2000 just yesterday . . . or at least it seems like it. Can you believe it is now 2010?
We started 2010 with playing a new venue, Woodview Coffee House in Lecanto and meeting new friends. These are our kind of people; they embraced our dark side and hard-hitting songs and requested more songs about murder and drinking . . . hhhmmmmmm. Check out the venue at http://woodviewcoffeehouse.org/. We highly recommend this venue for hearing some great music.
Sharla and Brian are on their way to Costa Rica for their honeymoon. Hope it is warmer there than here! At least you can keep each other warm . . . tee hee. During Sharla's absence, The Mayhaws' Trio, Carrie, Dave and Adam will take on two gigs (Deb is booked elsewhere also). You can catch this trio on January 22 at the Monticello Opera House performing on television for Rick Ott's From the Heart Music Show. Then rest up Saturday so you can go out Saturday night the 23rd to SONGS OF SUPPORT FOR LEILA at the American Legion Hall; suggested donation $8. This is a great cause, so c'mon out and hear the New 76ers, Mayhaws' Trio, Recliners and Even Money. For more information on the fund and the concert, contact Kim Thomas at kymiid35@embarqmail.com or visit Kim's Facebook.
The full band will be back together for Grant Peeple's "Bob Night", American Legion Hall on February 6th. Don't miss this semi-annual concert honoring Bob Dylan. For more information, contact Grant Peeples at gpeeps@mindspring.com.
For all our Gainesville area folks, Bob Night is scheduled February 20th. For more information, see poster.

Let's Party!
It's official; Sharla and Brian got "hitched" today! No, the 'Haws did not provide the music, we partied; BIG TIME. It is indeed a wonderful time when we can sit back, relax and listen to others' music. What a beautiful and joyous event. Congratulations Sharla and Brian.
October has been pretty quiet for us, except for a couple of private events. We will be in fine form and ready to play for the Riverhawk Music Festival, November 6-8. Check out the event website to get your tickets or you will miss some pretty fine pickin', strummin' and fiddlin'. Our friends, Radio Free Carmela and the Transmitters are on the schedule this year. Woo hoo.... don't miss this one.

No Place Like Home
There really is no place like home, and we’ve sure had a blast playing gigs right here in Tallahassee the past few weeks. To all you fine folks who came out and shook yer legs at Paradise and then again at Bird’s last weekend, we thank you. Having Adam back in the mix is fantastic; we missed him mightily over the summer. It was big fun celebrating his return with all y’all!
It’s plumb thrilling to look out into the crowd and see old friends mixed with some unfamiliar faces, and to see y’all singing along with the songs off Lonely Places. We are so lucky to live in our talent-dense, steaming, vibrant hometown.
And speaking of hometown gigs, come see us Thursday, September 17 at the Museum of Florida History in the RA Grey Building. The hour is reasonable (starting at 5pm). The food will be delicious!

Hot August Nights
Honey Hush . . . it sure is hot, and not just the weather. We hit the road running this month, seeing old friends and making new ones. We started in Jacksonville at the European Street Cafe (San Marco) and Ray's listening room almost ran out of room.
Next, we headed up to Savannah for First Friday at the Savannah
Folk Music Society. Local artist, Sandy Branam, renders a water
color painting of every artist who
performs.
Click on the wee pic on the left to see The 'Haws, minus Adam, in living
color! Guess we need to return next year so Adam can be in the painting. We
hope Deb's finessful licks changed Hank's mind about drums and folk music,
but then, we're fans of the blurry lines anyway.
Then it was back down in Florida for a night at Lightnin' Salvage in Gainesville. Really, what a turn out. Folks were spilling out into the parking lot, dangling from the monkeybars, dancing on the back railings. This was truly a hot August night. We were hot, the weather was hot, and the pizza was hot . . . . at least the beer was cold! Thanks to all our musician friends and awesome fans for coming out on a sultry August night and cutting the rug in spite of (or was it because of?) the swelter.
We ended our journey playing and chatting on Cathy DeWitt's Across the Prairie radio show on WFUT in Gainesville. Thanks Cathy, for the opportunity to be on the air waves, and for keeping things fun and relaxed. Those three-part harmonies we heard you singing were fantastic, too!
But August is not over yet. We will be in Tallahassee, August 20 at Paradise Grill & Bar. Adam will be back from Colorado to join us this night. August 21, we return to Gainesville for a Mayhaw Concert at the Thomas Center. Our friends, the Damnsels (Ashley and Erin) will be on the bill ahead of us. You don't want to miss this show! Then we finish August on the 29th back in Tallahassee at Bird's Aphrodisiac Oyster Shack for Adam's official welcome home party.

Mayhaws in June
How about a cup of strong coffee with a shot of Crown (or some turkey-tail tea)? Here's a big shout out to Tall Pine Productions and to Dale Crider at Anhinga Roost, who have offered their friendship and support down the line and to whom we Mayhaws are eternally grateful.
"There are wild Mayhaws growing down the road, yet the distribution map does not show Orange County with any. The fruit is getting bigger by the day. I take it as a sign."
-- Ourstaunch ally, Eric Hoeppner of Tall Pine Cattleprods
